education imaginative
In 2021, Ary founded Queer Art Lab, a platform he directed for 4 years. Throughout these years, he has continued to search for new ways to provide education, to rethink educational methods, and to develop tools to help artists access the labor market.
Queer Art Lab's mission was to support creative and innovative projects developed by emerging LGBTQI+ artists. The platform hosted year-round residencies, art markets, live concerts, workshops, exhibitions, cinema talks, art festivals, live drawing sessions with trans models, and inclusive reading sessions for children. Hundreds of artists have benefited from Ary's secured collaborations and partnerships, resulting in truly amazing and inspiring works.
Queer Art Lab was financed by an yearly support of Trumps Lda, Company.

inclusive Children's book

Eight artists were selected through an open call to participate in two different labs - writing and illustration. Under professional mentorship, they were able to develop strong skills and finish the program with a published book.
Synopsis
Happiness is urgent! Animals cross the world, time and galaxies, and come together to think about it. They mold it like a little ball of plasticine that rolls curiously, without having to fit in. It bounces on its tiptoes, the hue of dawn in the night sky and a new dance begins. In this adventure, there are always more superheroines and heroes to make us dream.
Under the mentorship of renowned professionals Isabel Zambujal and Yara Kono, and in collaboration with Planeta Tangerina, this book presents short stories that explore diversity in a broad and engaging way. The result of a project developed in a creative laboratory, each page is an open door to a world painted with new possibilities. A unique project, where the talents of eight people merge into a singular co-authorship.
WRITERS: Danilo Gouveia, David J. Amado, Joana Branco, Laura Falésia.
ILLUSTRATORS: Ana Casimiro, Bruno de Almeida, Fatumata, Nicole Ostrovan.
This book is on the list recommended by the National Reading Plan in Portugal.

CORPAÇAS
inclusive live drawing
CORPAÇAS comes from the combination of the words: bodies and shells. Due to a noticeable and coherent invisibility and believing that art narrates history, CORPAÇAS aims to bring awareness, insight and materialization of trans identities to the artists and educational panorama of the arts in Portugal.
From 2021 to 2023, in partnership with Lisbon Drawing Club collective, monthly sessions were held with numerous trans people working as models.
In 2022, CORPAÇAS broke the barrier and reached a public arts school - ESAD. For the first time in Portugal, art students were having access to draw transgender models - a huge break through for the academic curriculum as for the trans community.
Finally in 2023, the project expanded its shape and people were invited to draw a live performance of two trans artists, at the highly acclaimed Gulbenkian Foundation.
Except for the sessions happening at ESAD, today, the project runs by appointment only.
ART MURAL
Five artists were selected, through an open call, to participate in a laboratory under the mentorship of Tamara Alves with the mission of creating together a mural in the outskirts of Lisbon.
This lab was supported by Junta de Freguesia da Penha de França, Galeria de Arte Urbana + CML, Arroz Estúdios, Aldeia Nova & Silva Reis and Trumps.

artist manifesto
THE BODY AS A TERRITORY OF PEACE
GOING THROUGH OUR HISTORIES AS QUEER PEOPLE,
WE HAVE TRIED TO MAKE OUR BODIES A PLACE OF PEACE.
GOING THROUGH VARIOUS INTERNAL BATTLES,
EMOTIONAL WOUNDS AND EXTERNAL PRESSURES,
WE MADE OUR WAY TO THE TERRITORY OF PEACE.
A FLUID PATH, FULL OF CONTOURS,
FREE TO COME AND GO,
JUST LIKE A RIVER, WE TRY WITH OUR STRENGTH TO CROSS AND
OPEN PATHS, USING OUR INTERNAL COMPASS TO
GUIDE US.
SOMETIMES THESE PATHS MARK US WITH SCARS,
SOMETIMES WE MARK OURSELVES WITH DRAWINGS AND PHRASES THAT
MEAN AND [RE]MEAN US.
THIS FEELING, FLOWING LIKE A RIVER, IS A DESIRE
AND ROOTED IN THE HUMAN BEING.
LIKE THE BRANCHES OF A RIVER THAT MEET AND MAKE IT GROW
ALSO SHOW US THAT WE DON'T NEED TO FOLLOW
THAT WE CAN EXIST AND BE THE BRANCH WE WANT OR CREATE A NEW RIVER.
OR CREATE A WHOLE NEW RIVER.
BUT IT IS THESE SAME BRANCHES THAT MAKE US
WHO WE ARE, AND SOME OF THEM MOTIVATE US TO CONTINUE THE SEARCH
IN OUR SKIN, WHICH HAS PARTS THAT ARE A TERRITORY YET TO BE
DISCOVERED .
